Open kitchen and dining room in a Breckenridge, Colorado remodel designed by Elle Schwab of Elle J Design

Elle Schwab

Elle founded Elle J Design and leads every project as its principal designer. The studio is a boutique practice in Summit County, Colorado, focused on space planning, interior design, and furnishings for new builds and large-scale remodels. She stays with each home from the first floor plan review to the final walk-through.

how elle works

Elle describes her approach as designing “with an architectural mindset, thinking through the space from the bones out.” Layout, lighting, and function are settled first. Finishes and furnishings follow, so every selection supports how the home will be lived in.

She keeps the studio small on purpose: “Our size is intentional. It allows us to stay personally involved in every project.”

Her view of luxury is practical: “Luxury design isn’t about excess; it’s about ease, longevity and living well.”

Background

Elle’s experience adds up across three disciplines: close to ten years of interior design, eight in furnishings, and five in architectural drafting. That is why her work covers the full path from floor plan to furniture. Day to day she handles space planning, cabinetry design, and plans for lighting and electrical. She has also been through construction from the owner’s side, having built a home of her own.

Builders notice the difference. Iron Forest Building Company of Breckenridge says, “Her understanding of construction practices and how they relate to design is refreshing.”

Most of her projects are in Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne, and Dillon, and she has completed work as far away as Texas, South Carolina, and Michigan. Home is Summit County, where she lives with her husband, their two kids, and the family dog.
